PACSCOM offers a variety of products and systems to implement point to point links
The key parameters in selection are:
DATA FORMAT
Is the data in hardwired format or Serial (RS232 or 485)?
If the data is hardwired signals such as analogue sensors or digital contacts then units whch can accept these signals and convert them into digital data for transmission are required. SELECT PACSNET 2000 or 3000 Units
If the data is already in digital format because there is a PLC or other intelligent device at the location which offers an ES232 or RS485 interface then the PACSCOM unit needs only to communicate the serial data stream. SELECT CMD/CMS/CMZ units
HOW MUCH DATA IS INVOLVED?
If the data is hardwired signals then the right PACSCOM station should be selected for cost effective use
PACSNet 2000 units will handle 2 Analogue Ins
2 Pulse Ins
4 Contact Ins
2 Analogue Outs
4 Contact Outs
PACSNet 3000 units will handle any mixture of signals by selection of the appropriate cards.
If the data is already serial because there is a PLC or similar present at the location then the signal number are not important
DISTANCE BETWEEN REMOTE SITE AND LOCAL SITE
Typical Distances between point to point sites are from 1Km to 10Km. The standard PACSNet 0.5 watt radio unit fitted to all systems will handle this satisfactorily provided there is a good radio path.
If the radio path is obstructed by buildings or natural features (hills etc.) then it may be necessary to introduce a relay point (or points) to jump around the obstruction. Both PACSNet 2000 and 3000 units can do this.
If the distance is beyond 15Kms or there are no relay routes around obstructions then
- A higher power radio will be required which will need to be licensed. Contact PACSCOM for details and advice.
- Alternatively the PACSNet 2000 GSM option can be used. This uses the GSM Mobile Phone Network and provided there is coverage at each of the sites then this is a good solution.
I HAVE A PLC AT EACH SITE - WHICH RADIO OPTION IS BEST?
The Radio options are CMD/CMS or CMZ units.
As the CMZ units are crystal controlled most users prefer the synthesised CMD or CMS units for flexibility.
For selection criteria betwen CMS and CMD please contact PACSCOM as this generally involves an analysis of protocol handling, set up options and serial port handling and data speeds.
